Helen Thomas’ ‘Turf’

January 27, 2006

Drudge Story

Helen Thomas is mad. She’s mad because the President of the United States didn’t pick her when she raised her hand.

It reminds me of grade school.

Their are two very interesting points raised in her quotes. First, she seems to elevate her importance to the level of our nation’s biggest enemy:

"He's supposed to be this macho guy. He'll take on Osama bin Laden, but he won't take me on."

What arrogance to think yourself as much if not moreso deserving the President’s attention than the world’s most predominate terrorist vowed to destroy our country.

Second, and probably most shocking, is that she considers the White House briefing room “her turf”:

"He came on to my turf. I'll bet the next press conference will be in Room 450 of the EEOB," a theater-style room in the Eisenhower Executive Office Building, where she would not be in the front row.

What gives her the right to claim any type of ownership status to any part of the White House? She’s just a reporter.

A reporter who is trying to make herself the story.

Dreaming of Chocolate?

January 17, 2006

When Martin Luther King was saying, “I have a dream that my four children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character. I have a dream today”, I wonder if his dream included a “chocolate New Orleans”?

BREITBART.COM – New Orleans Mayor Says God Mad at U.S.

It’s time for us to come together. It’s time for us to rebuild New Orleans _ the one that should be a chocolate New Orleans,” the mayor said. “This city will be a majority African American city. It’s the way God wants it to be. You can’t have New Orleans no other way. It wouldn’t be New Orleans.”

Imagine the cries of “Racist!” and “Bigotry!” had a white mayor said anything remotely equivilent about a predominately caucasion community.

As a white man, I will never understand the double standard that exisits when dealing with race issues. When I read MLK’s speech, I understand him. I agree with him. But it seems to me that the so-called leaders who claim to be carrying the mantle of Martin Luther King bear very little resemblance to the honorable reverand and his dream.

Oh, but I’m white. To speak of such inconsistances would earn me the “racist” label in some people’s eyes. There are areas in which I am not allowed to tread in this free society, not even on an intellectual level.

News Flash! A Senator has already made up his mind!

January 11, 2006

village voice > news > Mondo Washington by James Ridgeway with Michael Roston

The linked article tries to raise concerns that Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC) has already made up his mind how he will vote on the Alito nomination.

Does Ridgeway and Roston really think that Senators Kennedy, Schumer, and Durbin have not as well?

Give me a break!

Sen. Kennedy has a Portuguese WATER DOG?!?

January 9, 2006

Sen. Ted Kennedy ‘Dogged’ By Children’s Book

Of all the different breeds of dogs in the world, why on EARTH would Senator Kennedy pick a Portuguese Water Dog?!?

From http://www.dogbreedinfo.com/portuguesewaterdog.htm:

Developed from working dogs brought by invaders and settlers to the Iberian Peninsula, the Portuguese Water Dog has aided Portuguese fisherman for many centuries. He herded and caught fish, carried messages between ships, retrieved anything that fell overboard, and guarded the catch and boats when in port.

I wonder what Mary Jo Kopechne thinks of that irony.

My Quote of the Day (or perhaps longer)

January 3, 2006

I came up with this earlier this morning, and just want to jot it down. I suspect I’ll have an opportunity to use this before long:

“No general ever inspired his troops to victory by advocating the status quo.” – B. Cleghorn, January 4, 2006
