Dreaming of Chocolate?
January 17, 2006When Martin Luther King was saying, “I have a dream that my four children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character. I have a dream today”, I wonder if his dream included a “chocolate New Orleans”?
BREITBART.COM – New Orleans Mayor Says God Mad at U.S.
It’s time for us to come together. It’s time for us to rebuild New Orleans _ the one that should be a chocolate New Orleans,” the mayor said. “This city will be a majority African American city. It’s the way God wants it to be. You can’t have New Orleans no other way. It wouldn’t be New Orleans.”
Imagine the cries of “Racist!” and “Bigotry!” had a white mayor said anything remotely equivilent about a predominately caucasion community.
As a white man, I will never understand the double standard that exisits when dealing with race issues. When I read MLK’s speech, I understand him. I agree with him. But it seems to me that the so-called leaders who claim to be carrying the mantle of Martin Luther King bear very little resemblance to the honorable reverand and his dream.
Oh, but I’m white. To speak of such inconsistances would earn me the “racist” label in some people’s eyes. There are areas in which I am not allowed to tread in this free society, not even on an intellectual level.
