Helen Thomas’ ‘Turf’
January 27, 2006Helen Thomas is mad. She’s mad because the President of the United States didn’t pick her when she raised her hand.
It reminds me of grade school.
Their are two very interesting points raised in her quotes. First, she seems to elevate her importance to the level of our nation’s biggest enemy:
"He's supposed to be this macho guy. He'll take on Osama bin Laden, but he won't take me on."
What arrogance to think yourself as much if not moreso deserving the President’s attention than the world’s most predominate terrorist vowed to destroy our country.
Second, and probably most shocking, is that she considers the White House briefing room “her turf”:
"He came on to my turf. I'll bet the next press conference will be in Room 450 of the EEOB," a theater-style room in the Eisenhower Executive Office Building, where she would not be in the front row.
What gives her the right to claim any type of ownership status to any part of the White House? She’s just a reporter.
A reporter who is trying to make herself the story.
