Day Two Teaser

August 2, 2008

It’s late, I’m tired, and it’s taking longer than usual to upload the photos to Flickr.  I’ll summarize Day Two at some point during Day Three.   Until then, here’s a teaser:

Hilton Head Vacation – Day One

August 1, 2008

Our day started pretty early, as we finalized our packing and loaded the car.  A few last minute errands, a half a tank of expensive ($3.99) Illinois gas, and we were off.  For a little bit.  We drove about 45 minutes, and stopped at Millie’s Pancake House in Addison for a late breakfast.

Our next stop was in Lafayette, IN for some cheap(er) gas ($3.71).  The facilities were not up to our high standards, so we drove a little further down the road to a Rest Area for a bit of relief and to burn some pent-up energy.

The girls fought a bit in the car, but I think that’s due to their excitement about going to the beach.  I just want to say that the person who had the idea of the Portable DVD Player deserves a special place in the Parent’s Hall of Fame.  We hit a small traffic jam outside of Louisville, KY that allowed me to snap this picture of Haley enjoying Cars:

Dinnertime found us in Lexington, KY.  We chose a familiar family restaurant for dinner, and thankfully the girls were more focused on getting ready for dinner than taking in their surroundings.  Becky and I found it odd that these two businesses right next to each other.

We were (I was) hoping to make it to Tennessee before we stopped for the night, but it was dark and beginning to get hilly, and Jenna really needed to stop for the night, so we checked in at the Cumberland Inn in Williamsburg, KY, a really beautiful (and affordable) hotel run by students from Cumberland College.  If we had more time, perhaps we’d check out the Taxidermy museum, but for now, we’re getting ready for another long day on the road.

These and other photos are over on Flickr.

Good night for now.  We’ll see you tomorrow.
